{"id":126270,"date":"2020-09-15T09:46:40","date_gmt":"2020-09-15T13:46:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/?p=126270"},"modified":"2020-09-15T11:15:35","modified_gmt":"2020-09-15T15:15:35","slug":"kb4576754-windows-10-microsoft-edge-install","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/kb4576754-windows-10-microsoft-edge-install\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows 10 update KB4576754 forces new Microsoft Edge install on PCs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has made available the KB4576754 update (via <a href=\"https:\/\/betanews.com\/2020\/09\/15\/kb4576754-update-windows-10-microsoft-edge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BetaNews<\/a>) for devices running <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/windows-10-2004-new-features\">Windows 10 version 2004<\/a>, 1909, 1903, and 1809 to force the install of the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge to replace the legacy version.<\/p>\n<p>Once the <strong>KB4576754<\/strong> update installs, the new version of <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/microsoft-edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a> will be applied, the app will be pinned to the taskbar, and the option to uninstall the browser will be removed from the Settings app.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to this update, the company also rolled out <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/4576753\/update-for-the-new-microsoft-edge-for-windows-10-version-1803\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the KB4576753 update<\/a> for computers still running version 1803 to replace the default web browser with the new version based on the Chromium platform.<\/p>\n<h2>Update KB4576754 for Windows 10<\/h2>\n<p>According to the company, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/4576754\/update-for-the-new-microsoft-edge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">these are the changes<\/a> introduced with KB4576754:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start menu pins, tiles, and shortcuts for the current version of Microsoft Edge will migrate to the new Microsoft Edge.<\/li>\n<li>Taskbar pins and shortcuts for the current version of Microsoft Edge will migrate to the new Microsoft Edge.<\/li>\n<li>The new Microsoft Edge will be pinned to the taskbar. If the current version of Microsoft Edge is already pinned, it will be replaced.<\/li>\n<li>The new Microsoft Edge will add a shortcut to the desktop. If the current version of Microsoft Edge already has a shortcut, it will be replaced.<\/li>\n<li>By default, most protocols that Microsoft Edge handles will be migrated to the new Microsoft Edge.<\/li>\n<li>The current version of Microsoft Edge will be hidden from UX surfaces in the OS. This includes settings, applications, and any file or protocol support dialog boxes.<\/li>\n<li>Trying to start the current version of Microsoft Edge will redirect to the new Microsoft Edge.<\/li>\n<li>The First Run Experience (FRE) will auto-launch the first time that a device restarts after the new Microsoft Edge is installed. This does not occur on devices joined to a Domain, Active Directory, Azure AD or on Windows 10 Enterprise and Surface Hub Editions.<\/li>\n<li>Data from earlier versions of Microsoft Edge (such as passwords, favorites, open tabs) will be available in the new Microsoft Edge.<\/li>\n<li>The new Microsoft Edge does not support the removal of this update.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although the update is not part of a Patch Tuesday update rollout, the company is pushing the update automatically through Windows Update.
