In this guide, I will explain how to complete this configuration.<\/p>\n<p>The legacy version of Outlook (the one that comes bundled with the Office apps) has an unnecessary default configuration that uses <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/microsoft-edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a> to open links and document attachments with the web versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, it&#8217;s possible to change the settings so that links open with your default web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, etc.). Also, if you have the apps from Office 2021 or <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/microsoft-365-personal-vs-microsoft-365-family-features-pricing\/\">Microsoft 365<\/a>, you can change the settings so documents can open with the desktop applications.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that the <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/new-outlook-windows-11-generally-available\/\">new Outlook app for Windows 11<\/a> opens links directly into the default browser and doesn&#8217;t force them into Edge. However, you must configure your installation to make your <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/make-chrome-firefox-default-browser-windows-11\/\">preferred browser the default<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/how-to\">guide<\/a>, I will outline the steps to change Outlook&#8217;s link-open behavior on Windows 11.<\/p>\n<h2>Change Outlook settings to open links on default browser (not Edge)<\/h2>\n<p>To set Outlook to open links on the default browser, such as Chrome and Firefox, instead of Edge, use these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Open <strong>Outlook<\/strong> app on Windows 11.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>File<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>Options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>Advanced<\/strong> from the left navigation pane.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Under the &#8220;File and browser preferences&#8221; section, choose the <strong>&#8220;Default Browser&#8221;<\/strong> option for the &#8220;Open hyperlinks from Outlook in&#8221; setting.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full browser.<\/p>\n<h3>Open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint attachments on desktop apps<\/h3>\n<p>The legacy version of the email client also opens document attachments using the web version of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but if you have the apps, you can configure Outlook to use the apps installed on your computer instead.<\/p>\n<p>To open documents from attachments on the desktop, use\u00a0 these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Open <strong>Outlook<\/strong> app.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>File<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>Options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>Advanced<\/strong> from the left navigation pane.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Under the &#8220;File and browser preferences&#8221; section, choose the <strong>&#8220;Browser&#8221;<\/strong> option for the &#8220;Open Word, Excel and PowerPoint files using&#8221; setting.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" applications installed on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>Although the legacy version of Outlook is still widely available, it&#8217;ll be replaced with the new Outlook for Windows 11 app. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcommunity.microsoft.com\/t5\/outlook-blog\/new-outlook-for-windows-a-guide-to-product-availability\/ba-p\/4078895\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Microsoft plans<\/a> to
