<strong>System and Performance<\/strong>, turn on <strong>&#8220;Resource controls,&#8221;<\/strong> and set the memory limit for the browser.<\/li>\n<li>If the option is missing, you can enable it manually with this <code>--enable-features=msEdgeResourceControlsRamLimiter<\/code>\u00a0command.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UPDATED 5\/14\/2024:<\/strong> Microsoft is building a feature that will allow you to limit the system memory usage of Microsoft Edge on <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/windows-11\">Windows 11<\/a> and 10. <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.windows.com\/msedgedev\/2024\/05\/02\/control-edge-memory-usage-with-resource-controls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to the company<\/a>, starting with version 125, the default browser for Windows devices will include new <strong>&#8220;Resource controls&#8221;<\/strong> settings to manage RAM usage.<\/p>\n<p>One of the constant problems with web browsers, especially Google Chrome, has been out-of-control memory usage, and this relates to <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/microsoft-edge\">Microsoft Edge<\/a> because this browser is based on the Chromium engine, also developed by Google.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has come up with ways to optimize its browser for performance with different features, such as the <strong>&#8220;Efficiency mode&#8221;<\/strong> to optimize system resources when running on battery and <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/enable-sleeping-tabs-microsoft-edge\/\">the &#8220;Sleeping tabs&#8221; feature<\/a> that puts tabs to sleep after some time of inactivity to free up system resources, including memory.\u00a0However, the company is now taking it one step further with the new <strong>&#8220;Resource controls&#8221;<\/strong> settings that allow you to specify exactly how much memory Microsoft Edge can use.<\/p>\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/how-to\">guide<\/a>, I will teach you the steps to configure the memory limiter on the default browser of Windows.<\/p>\n<h2>Limit RAM usage on Microsoft Edge<\/h2>\n<p>To limit the amount of RAM that Edge can use on Windows, use these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Open <strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <strong>Settings and more<\/strong> (three dots) button from the top-right.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Choose the <strong>Settings<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>System and performance<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Turn on the <strong>Resource controls<\/strong> toggle switch under the &#8220;Manage your performance&#8221; If the feature isn&#8217;t available, you will have to enable it manually by right-clicking the browser shortcut, choosing the <strong>&#8220;Properties&#8221;<\/strong> option, and appending the <code>--enable-features=msEdgeResourceControlsRamLimiter<\/code> line at the end of the <strong>&#8220;Target&#8221;<\/strong> setting.
