{"id":169333,"date":"2024-06-07T10:30:41","date_gmt":"2024-06-07T14:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/?p=169333"},"modified":"2026-01-22T19:39:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-23T00:39:59","slug":"windows-recall-hardware-requirements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/windows-recall-hardware-requirements\/","title":{"rendered":"Windows Recall hardware requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"sum\">\n<li>Windows Recall is only available for Copilot+ PCs.<\/li>\n<li>Older PCs without an NPU won&#8217;t be able to run the Recall AI feature.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s unclear when the AI feature will be officially available for compatible hardware.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Windows Recall is perhaps one of the biggest new features in <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/windows-11-24h2-new-features\">Windows 11 24H2<\/a>, but there appears to be some confusion about which computers will be getting the photographic memory-like feature.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been getting many questions about whether the current system will support the AI feature from those who want to use it. However, I&#8217;ve also been asked whether version 24H2 will install and enable <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/what-is-recall-windows-11-ai-timeline-explained\/\">Windows Recall<\/a> automatically, as many people have privacy concerns about the feature.<\/p>\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/how-to\">guide<\/a>, I&#8217;ll explain which devices are getting the new Recall AI features and which ones won&#8217;t after <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/upgrade-windows-11-24h2\/\">installing Windows 11 24H2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Windows Recall requirements for Copilot+ PC<\/h2>\n<p>The Recall AI feature is exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, which Microsoft defines as a new computer category with these hardware requirements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Processor:<\/strong>\u00a0 ARM or x86 CPU with NPU (40 TOPS).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Memory:<\/strong> 16GB or more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Storage:<\/strong> 256GB of SSD or more.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Security:<\/strong> TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, if you want to turn on Windows Recall, you will have to enable encryption with BitLocker or Device Encryption for Windows 11 Pro and Home. This feature will require virtualization-based security and hypervisor-enforced code integrity (Memory integrity) as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/security\/operating-system-security\/system-security\/secure-the-windows-10-boot-process\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measured boots<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/security\/hardware-security\/system-guard-secure-launch-and-smm-protection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">system guard secure launches<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/security\/hardware-security\/kernel-dma-protection-for-thunderbolt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kernel DMA Protection<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the supported processors, Recall will be available for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X series, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/partner\/articles\/ryzen-ai-300-series-processors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AMD Ryzen AI 300<\/a> (up to 50 TOPS), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/newsroom\/news\/core-ultra-200v-series-mobile.html#gs.gfc9un\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intel Core Ultra 200v<\/a> series (up to 120 TOPS).<\/p>\n<p>TOPS stands for <strong>&#8220;Tera Operations Per Second,&#8221;<\/strong> and it&#8217;s a metric used to measure the performance of <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/what-is-npu-pc-need-one-neural-processing-unit-explained\/\">Neural Processing Units (NPUs)<\/a>. It essentially tells you how many trillion mathematical operations an NPU can perform in a single second.<\/p>\n    <div class=\"responsive-youtube-container\">\n        <iframe\n            src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qytbm5UaM84?rel=0&showinfo=0\"\n            frameborder=\"0\"\n            allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\"\n            allowfullscreen\n            loading=\"lazy\"\n        ><\/iframe>\n    <\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/copilot-plus-pcs?r=1#shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first wave of the Copilot+ PCs<\/a> has been available since June 18, 2024, some of which include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Surface Pro (11th Edition).<\/li>\n<li>Surface Laptop (7th Edition).<\/li>\n<li>Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge.<\/li>\n<li>DELL Inspiron 14 Plus.<\/li>\n<li>DELL XPS 13.<\/li>\n<li>Acer Swift 14 AI.<\/li>\n<li>Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x.<\/li>\n<li>ASUS Vivobook S 15.<\/li>\n<li>HP OmniBook X 14.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Older PCs won&#8217;t get Windows Recall<\/h3>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"3:1-3:262\">Initially, many AI features, including Windows Recall, arriving in Windows 11 24H2, will be exclusively available on Copilot+ PCs. This means existing devices running older Windows 11 versions will not gain access to these AI features after upgrading to 24H2.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"5:1-5:199\">It&#8217;s crucial to understand that there&#8217;s currently no upgrade path to convert an existing PC into a Copilot+ PC. You can manually <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/enable-recall-windows-11\/\">enable Windows Recall<\/a> within the Settings app.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:237\">When enabled, the Recall icon will appear in the system tray of the taskbar, providing a clear visual indicator of its active status.
