{"id":172756,"date":"2025-12-17T06:00:53","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T11:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/?p=172756"},"modified":"2025-12-17T21:59:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T02:59:22","slug":"customize-copilot-key-action-windows-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/customize-copilot-key-action-windows-11\/","title":{"rendered":"How to customize Copilot keyboard key action on Windows 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul class=\"sum\">\n<li>To change the action when pressing the Copilot physical key on Windows 11, open <strong>Settings<\/strong> &gt; <b>Bluetooth &amp; devices <\/b>&gt; <b>Keyboard<\/b>\u00a0and customize the keyboard key using the <strong>&#8220;Customize Copilot key on keyboard&#8221;<\/strong> setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>UPDATED 12\/17\/2025:<\/strong> On <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/windows-11\">Windows 11<\/a>, it&#8217;s possible to change the action when you press the <strong>Copilot<\/strong> key on the keyboard to launch virtually any app, including other chatbots like ChatGPT, and in this guide, I will explain this configuration.<\/p>\n<p>When Microsoft\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">unveiled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/windows-11-24h2-copilot-app-suggestions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copilot AI<\/a>, it was first available as Bing Chat on the web, and the company later integrated the chatbot into Windows 11 with a side-panel interface that appeared on<\/span>\u00a0the right side of the screen.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\">Soon after, as part of a marketing campaign, the software giant announced it would add a\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/microsoft-new-copilot-ai-key-windows-keyboards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dedicated physical Copilot key<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\"> to new keyboards for faster access to the chatbot, which it described<\/span>\u00a0as the most significant change to the PC experience in the last three decades.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after, new devices\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">such as the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 began shipping with the new Copilot, and the company changed the direction of its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/what-windows-copilot-runtime-windows-11-ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AI implementation<\/a>, removing the chatbot integration in favor of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/install-bing-chatgpt-app-windows-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Copilot web app,<\/a> which<\/span>\u00a0no longer launches with the Copilot key.<\/p>\n<p>Since the Copilot key on the keyboard\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">lost functionality starting with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/kb5043186-kb5043185-windows-11-new-feature-change-copilot-key\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows 11 build 22635.4225 (KB5043186)<\/a>, the system now offers an option to customize its action<\/span>. The setting lets you open the Windows Search experience or any app, provided it&#8217;s a signed MSIX package. For example, on my computer, I couldn&#8217;t find Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or VLC.
