Although Microsoft still doesn&#8217;t want you to <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/move-taskbar-top-side-windows-11\/\">move the Taskbar to the top of the screen<\/a>, it&#8217;s adding a new customization option to make icons smaller.<\/p>\n<p>The new option is still in the testing phase but doesn&#8217;t allow you to choose from different sizes or make the Taskbar shorter or taller. Instead, it&#8217;s an option meant to optimize the Taskbar space further, as shrinking the icons makes it possible to fit even more icons for apps.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to try this feature, you will need to <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/install-windows-11-insider-preview-builds\/\">install the latest preview of Windows 11<\/a> through the Beta Channel, which is a development part of version 23H2.<\/p>\n<p>In this <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/tag\/how-to\">guide<\/a>, I will outline the steps to change the size of app icons in the Taskbar on Windows 11.<\/p>\n<h2>Change icon size for Taskbar on Windows 11<\/h2>\n<p>To change the size of the app icons in the Taskbar, use these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Open <strong>Settings<\/strong> on Windows 11.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click on <strong>Personalization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <strong>Taskbar<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <strong>Taskbar behaviors<\/strong> setting.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>(Option 1) Choose the <strong>&#8220;Always&#8221;<\/strong> option in the &#8220;Show smaller taskbar buttons&#8221; setting to show smaller <strong>&#8220;When taskbar is full&#8221;<\/strong> option in the &#8220;Show smaller taskbar buttons&#8221; settings to maintain the original size, but then make the icons smaller when the Taskbar is full to create more space.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>(Option 3) Choose the <strong>Never<\/strong> option in the <strong>&#8220;Show smaller taskbar buttons&#8221;<\/strong> setting to disable the feature and show regular-size icons.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you complete the steps, the Taskbar will reflect the icon size you specified.<\/p>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s not possible to change the Taskbar location, Microsoft has been proactively adding new settings, including the ability to <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/show-taskbar-labels-never-combine-windows-11\/\">ungroup and show labels<\/a>.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\">You can also decide whether to\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/disable-mouse-hover-display-app-menu-taskbar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">show a jump list when hovering inactive apps<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem;\">, and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/hide-clock-taskbar-windows-11\/\">hide the clock in the System Tray<\/a> or show a <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/show-shorter-time-date-taskbar-windows-11\/\">shorter time and date<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pureinfotech.com\/show-seconds-taskbar-clock-windows-11\/\">show seconds in the clock<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Enable Taskbar icon size setting<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re still unable to find the option through the Windows Insider Program, you may have to enable the setting manually using the ViveTool, and here&#8217;s how:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/thebookisclosed\/ViVe\/releases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Open <strong>GitHub<\/strong> website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Download the <strong>ViveTool-vx.x.x.zip<\/strong> file on your computer.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" <strong>Start<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Search for <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong>, right-click the top result, and select the <strong>Run as administrator<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Type the following command to navigate to the ViveTool folder and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<pre>cd c:\\folder\\path\\ViveTool-v0.x.x<\/pre>\n<p>In the command, remember to change the path to the folder with your path.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>(Option 1) Type the following command to enable a hidden feature on Windows 11 and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<pre>vivetool \/enable \/id:29785184<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>(Option 2) Type the following command to enable a hidden if the previous command didn&#8217;t work and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<pre>vivetool \/enable \/id:48433719,29785184<\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Restart the computer.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After you complete the steps, you can turn on the feature using the instructions outlined at the beginning of this guide.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to undo the changes, you can run the <code>vivetool \/disable \/id:29785184<\/code> command on <strong>step 10<\/strong>\u00a0or the <code>vivetool \/disable \/id:48433719,29785184<\/code> command if you used <strong>option 2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update February 11, 2025:<\/strong> This
